Stellar P automotive MCUs from ST target electrified drivetrains, as well as domain-oriented, over-the-air updateable systems for EVs. According to the manufacturer, the Stellar P MCUs are the industry’s first qualifiable devices for model year 2024 vehicles to integrate the CAN-XL in-car communication standard. CAN-XL will enable new vehicle platforms to handle the growing data flows so that cars can operate at peak performance.

The microcontrollers provide real-time and deterministic processing leveraging up to six 32-bit Arm Cortex-R52 cores—some operating in Lockstep mode and others in Split-lock mode. Up to 20 Mbytes of embedded nonvolatile phase-change memory enable the MCUs to deliver fast read access times. This memory also offers a dual-image storage function (2×20 Mbytes) for over-the-air reprograming purposes.

Built on 28-nm FD-SOI process technology, the parts provide quasi-immunity to radiations. Stellar 6 MCUs integrate advanced timers, including GMT-4, with advanced signal processing, dedicated sensor/actuator interfaces, and high-temperature support up to a junction temperature of 165°C.

Samples of the Stellar P microcontrollers are available now for model year 2024 vehicles.
